Ice Dam Prevention

Heat Tape & Ice Dam Solutions

Three professional-grade heat tape tiers — sized to your home, budget, and Utah's harshest winters. We assess your specific roofline and recommend the right system, then install it right the first time.

The Problem

Why Ice Dams Form — and What Stops Them

Ice dams happen when heat escapes through your roof and melts snow near the ridge. That meltwater runs down toward the cold eave and refreezes, building up an ice dam that blocks drainage. Water then backs up under your shingles and into your attic, insulation, and walls.

Utah's freeze-thaw cycles — warm afternoons, sub-zero nights — are the perfect ice dam factory. Homes with older insulation, complex rooflines, north-facing exposures, or unheated garages are especially vulnerable. Heat tape installed in gutters and along eaves actively keeps a drainage channel open, preventing the dam from forming in the first place.

Not all heat tape is equal. We offer three tiers matched to different budgets, run lengths, and application types — so you're not paying for more than you need, or installing something that won't hold up to your conditions.

Three Systems for Every Home & Budget

Each tier is professionally installed. The right choice depends on your run length, roofline complexity, and how much you want to set-and-forget.

Residential

Fixed-wattage heat tape for straightforward gutter runs. Cost-effective protection for standard Utah homes with simple rooflines.

  • 5 W/ft constant output
  • 120V only
  • Uses standard 120v plugs, you fully control
  • Single runs up to 240 ft
  • Light indicator shows when heat tape is on
  • 4-5 year typical lifespan

Mid-Grade Self-Regulating

The most popular choice for Northern Utah homes. Self-regulating polymer core adjusts output automatically — no thermostat needed, no manual switching.

  • 5 W/ft (self-adjusting)
  • 120V only
  • Uses standard 120v plugs
  • Turns on and off automatically
  • Handles complex rooflines
  • 5-9 year typical lifespan

Commercial Self-Regulating

Heavy-duty construction for commercial buildings, large homes, rental properties, and runs that demand 240V power. Built to last through a decade of Utah winters.

  • 6, 8 or 10 W/ft (self-adjusting)
  • 120V or 240V
  • 240V for runs requiring more heat or distance
  • Heavy-duty outdoor jacket
  • GlowCap LED End Seal
  • 40ºF-90ºF Operating Temperature
  • 10-Year Manufacturer's Material Warranty

Why It Matters

Professional Installation Makes All the Difference

Correctly Sized Circuits

Heat tape draws real amperage. We calculate your total load and ensure dedicated circuits are properly sized — protecting your electrical system and preventing nuisance trips.

Proper End Cap Termination

Improperly terminated ends are the #1 cause of heat tape failure and fire risk. Every end is properly capped with weatherproof, outdoor-rated terminations, kept elevated out of standing water.

Clean, Finished Appearance

We route cable neatly along rooflines, through gutters and downspouts, with a finished look that doesn't detract from your home's curb appeal — not a tangled mess of orange extension cords.

Not Sure Which Tier Is Right for You?

We'll walk your roofline, assess your exposure and run lengths, and recommend exactly what you need — no upsell, no pressure.
